Benjamin Golub is an American executive.

Biography[]

Golub graduated from Monta Vista High School in Cupertino, California in 1986.[1] His first job was cutting apricots near the site that now houses Apple headquarters. He graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in public policy from Princeton University. His undergraduate thesis work was on population growth problems in Kenya, where he spent several months researching, including time spent in Siaya District, the location of President Barack Obama’s ancestral village.Template:Citation needed

Golub was operations analyst at Sun Microsystems from 1990 through 1992. Golub holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a masters in public administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard.[2] While in graduate school in 1993, Golub was part of an effort to establish a business school in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.Template:Citation needed In 1995 he became product manager at Avid Technology. He joined VeriSign in 1997 and became chief marketing officer and senior vice president and general manager.[3]

In March 2005 Golub served as the president and chief executive officer of Plaxo, replacing Sean Parker’s role at the company.[4] Under Golub’s tenure, Plaxo reached profitability, grew to over 20 million users, and was acquired by Comcast Interactive Media in May 2008.[5][6][7] He left Plaxo in March 2010.[8]

In May 2010 Golub became the president and chief executive officer for Gluster, the commercial entity behind the GlusterFS cluster file system.[9][10][11] In September 2010 he was quoted as saying he thought enterprise data storage was "downright sexy".[12] He wrote a blog for Computer World in 2011 and 2012.[13] He served as CEO through the sale of Gluster to Red Hat in October 2011.[14][15]

Golub became president and chief executive officer of dotCloud, the commercial entity behind Docker technology, in July 2013.[2]
